Reverend John Oswald Smith
Rev. John Smith
 
Rev. John Smith was born in Bartica where he spent his formative years.  
He attended Queen’s College and after graduating with GCE ‘O’ and ‘A’ Levels worked at the Ministry of Works and Hydraulics for four (4) years. 
Reverend Smith served as Youth Leader for four (4) years before becoming full time Pastor of the Central Assembly of God Church.  He has served as Senior Pastor of Central A.O.G for over thirty (30) years and the Ruimveldt Life Improvement Centre Assembly of God is the brainchild of his leadership.   He attended the Assembly of God Bible College from 1965-1967, graduated as Valedictorian and was also the Student Council President. He continued his studies with the Bible College and enrolled in the A.M.T.I – Advanced Ministerial Training Institute now C.S.T – Caribbean School of Theology. In 1975 he graduated from U.G. – University of Guyana with a B.A Hons (History) and in 1985 from C.S.T with a B.S in Theology.  He continued his studies and in 1996 he earned his M.A Degree in Ministerial Studies from Global University.   
In the Assemblies of God in Guyana, he served for three (3) years as National Youth Leader, six (6) years as Assistant General Secretary, nine (9) years as Assistant General Superintendent and General Superintendent since 1997. Reverend John Smith has been very active in both the National and International arena. He served two (2) terms as Chairman of Guyana Evangelical Fellowship and has been on the Executive of Evangelical Association of the Caribbean since 1992. He is currently the First Vice President of that body.
Presently, he serves as a Caribbean Representative on the International Council of the World Evangelical Alliance, Secretary of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship and Executive Trustee of the International 3 r d World  Leaders Association.
He is the husband of one wife – Jean and father of two children – Shelley and Andre.
He has been the regular voice on C.I.T.A – Christ Is the Answer since 1976 and is currently the presenter on the Family Forum – a weekly telecast on Channel 11.  For several years he worked as an Evangelist in the Caribbean and North America with Bishop John Cummings and Apostle David Heyligar.
He now teaches in Seminars and Conventions in several nations and is also a graduate of the Haggai Institute.  One of his passions has been church planting. He now has oversight of some twenty-one (21) outstations at home and abroad.
