Dominate the 'Storms' Of Life

Matt. 14: 22-33

Matthew records the event where the disciples were caught in a storm at sea. They were afraid and tried to control their boat so it would not be destroyed, possibly taking them to an early grave.
While struggling to keep afloat and alive the disciples saw Jesus coming to them walking on the very water that was threatening their boat. When Peter saw Jesus he asked the Lord if he can come out to Him on the water. Jesus told him to come and he walked on water.

Some things to note in the above scenario.

          1. The disciples were working hard against the elements that were threatening their boat.
          2. The storm was not over; Jesus came walking in the storm.
          3. Once Peter saw Jesus he forgot there was a storm
          4. Peter began to walk on the very thing that was threatening the boat.

What we need to realize is that once we can see Jesus in our various challenging situations our concentration will not be on the elements that threaten our lives but on God who is able to do exceeding abundantly above all we can ask or imagine.

Once we look to God he will even make us to dominate and WALK on the very  ‘elements’ that seem to threaten our lives. The storm may not leave right away but if we could only see Jesus in the midst of the situation and keep our eyes on Him we can stand in any storm.

How were the three Hebrew boys able to stand in the element of fire in Nebuchadnezzars’ furnace?

Jesus was in there with them.

Keep your eyes on Jesus and you will come through anything.

LOVE Never Fails

1 Corinthians 13:3-8
3If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.
4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
 8Love never fails.
The word LOVE is used to express inters of both things and people.  I am sure you would have been told by someone in your lifetime “I love you so much, I can’t live without you, don’t know what I would do without you in my life…” then with the passing of time, you begin to notice that the person expressing less and less interest in you and before long your relationship is in an irreparable state and it ends up in you going separate directions.
1 Cor. 13 Paul gives us the profile of what true love is, unlike our world view, love is not what we think it is.  1 John 4:7-8 7Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
So it is established that for us to truly love anyone we must have a relationship with God, who is the embodiment of Love v9 of 1 John 4 expose how God expressed His love toward us, He sent His Son to die for our sin and made relationship possible again between God and man.

If anyone tells you how much they love you, ask them “Do you have relationship with the One that give the capacity to love me genuinely?” Husband/wife, brother/sister, parent/child, people relationships are in dilemma for ONE reason – we lack connection to the One who is able to help us fulfill the character of love as expressed in 1 Corinthians 13

Keeping Things In Perspective

1Samuel 17

1 Now the Philistines gathered their forces for war and assembled at Socoh in Judah. They pitched camp at Ephes Dammim, between Socoh and Azekah.
2 Saul and the Israelites assembled and camped in the Valley of Elah and drew up their battle line to meet the Philistines.
3 The Philistines occupied one hill and the Israelites another, with the valley between them.
4 A champion named Goliath, who was from Gath, came out of the Philistine camp. He was over nine feet tall.
 5 He had a bronze helmet on his head and wore a coat of scale armor of bronze weighing five thousand shekels;
6 on his legs he wore bronze greaves, and a bronze javelin was slung on his back.
7 His spear shaft was like a weaver's rod, and its iron point weighed six hundred shekels. His shield bearer went ahead of him.
8 Goliath stood and shouted to the ranks of Israel, "Why do you come out and line up for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and are you not the servants of Saul? Choose a man and have him come down to me.
9 If he is able to fight and kill me, we will become your subjects; but if I overcome him and kill him, you will become our subjects and serve us."
10 Then the Philistine said, "This day I defy the ranks of Israel! Give me a man and let us fight each other."

Israel was facing a big problem. Goliath was a major threat. They were afraid and trembling because of Goliath. When we examin the armour of this enemy of Israel, it could be said that this problem came “DRESSED TO KILL”.
The situation looked bad and Israel saw this problem as too big to handle. They saw Goliaths’ height, his huge spear, sword and armour and they practically gave up.
A young man named David came along and put this big problem in PERSPECTIVE, 1Samuel 17:26 David asked the men standing near him, "What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and removes this disgrace from Israel? Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?"

No problem is too big for God. David did not look at the size of this problem or how threatening it was. He looked to God who is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we can ask or imagine.
Remember a problem always comes “dressed to kill”
A threatening situation viewed in the context of Gods’ promise is always put in proper PERSPECTIVE-
That is, With God nothing is impossible.

Living without sinning

Heb 4:14-16

14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need

The scripture says Jesus was tempted in all points just as we are tempted. Temptation comes under 3 banner:

         1. Lust of the eye

         2. Lust of the flesh

         3. The pride of life.

Jesus was tempted under all three.

Jesus came to earth and walked the road that he requires us to walk today. That is a life without sin. Jesus came in the flesh not just to die on the cross but to show us that you can face temptation in the flesh, resist and not sin.

Nobody sins accidentally or unconsciously. Sin is a decision taken.

Jesus is touched with the feelings of our infirmities because he walked the walk when it comes to facing and resisting the temptation to sin.
Therefore it is required of us by God that we do not give in to sin, Ever.

You can live without sinning.

Daily Devotions

“Against all hope, Abraham hoped, believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, ‘so shall your offspring be’”. Romans 4:18

The word HOPE means; confidence, expectancy.

This hope by Abraham was as a result of a promise by God to give him a child through his union with Sarah.  It took years for the promise to come to pass but Abraham remained hopeful.  He faced the fact that his body was old and that Sarah’s womb was barren.  All seemed hopeless.

There are situations we will face where there is no physical or material evidence of a solution.  There is nothing to hold on to.  All you have is HOPE.

Romans 4:20 says that Abraham did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise.

When all your promises and plans do not seem to be working out, there is still HOPE!

CONFIDENCE that God is able and capable of doing something.  EXPECTING that God will do something.

AGAINGST ALL HOPE, ABRAHAM HOPED.
